As a knitter and designer I use notebook to take note of my pattern, sketch ideas and so on.
I always would love to have a knit related notebook cover as well.
When I draw and hand painted this one, I was inspired by a great knit designer who also inspired her fans showing off her fabulous shoes (Ysolda, every respectful knitters know who she is!). I kept one for me and though to sell some to make knitters happy as I am to use it.

In those days I've also got neck pain again. Ouch! Fortunately I had knitted a new cowl in cotton and silk. Do you recognize it? Yes, it's the Asparagus Cowl in spring - summer edition!
I have started about 4 or 5 project lately and at the moment I'm working at those two more than the other.

One is the Damson by Ysolda Teague,

and here is my work in progress. I started it at the beginning of April, when I bought a beautiful summer dress and roving in my stash I found a skein of Wollemeise in the same color and immediately I figure out the damson to pair with the dress.

my damson

Last Saturday I started another piece I already enjoy working on. Atelier by Heidi Kirrmaier a beautiful cardigan, I think it will be perfect for spring and summer evenings.

© Quickbeam09

I almost finished the first sleeve (not the cardigan itself, there is a unusual construction, you complete the sleeves before starting the body part, lovely thing I guess, so when you finished the body part you've done, no more boring time knitting the sleeves :)). The yarn I choose is a very surprise for me, usually I don't like cotton yarn, it's always too rough for my taste, but this yarn is soooo comfortable: Purelife Revive is a recycled cotton - silk - viscose mist from Rowan and I'm in love with it.

To not to mention the projects I have in mind for spring and summer. This one Is going a bit slower than I suspected. I started it a month ago, but I put it down after a few rows. but I'm confident, I will finish it soon or later.
I failed, I changed my hair stylist in inappropriate moment, and Saturday I felt like I was at barber shop. She cut my hair strongly, she cut my hair so short I look like a skin heads.
But, I have a strong temperament, so I took my needle and design a new accessory to go with my new hair cut, and I feel better when I wore it.
What came out is a new Cowl pattern, I called it Asparagus, because of the lace motive but also because Asparagus is a strong plant and you can see hair on his top. :)
Asparagus it's available to download at Raverly.
Argo is a very lovely knit pattern designed by Svetlana of Tweedsheep on Raverly. The Yarn I used for this cardigan is a very warm and beautiful aran tweed from Donegal Yarns, an Irish yarn company.
Just a few days ago this knit and crochet community passed 2.000.000 members and I'm proud to be part of it.
It's in here I make knitting friend and I met some wonderful girls in real life, some are now very good friend and we met and knit together , Tibisay is the group's founder of the Stitch nd Spritz, the first Stitch n Bitch in our city.
Thanks to her and her idea of a 12 sweater in 2012, I was able to complete a project a month this year, in January I've finished the Levenwick cardigan, in February I finished the Fisherman for Marco Rodrigo.
This month I joined the KAL from Italy group for the March KAL. I'm working on Argo, a perfect cardigan to take practice with contiguous method and short rows.
Here is a photo the WIP. I just turned the separating sleeves point and we are only the second of March :)
The past week was very awful for us, on Friday 17 my Mom was recovered at the hospital and I was in trouble till Thursday. The doctors told us they suspect a blood cancer but at least on Saturday they ended up with good news. there are other analysis to make, but for now the prognosis is good and my Mom got home.
In the meaning time I finished the first sweater I made for Marco Rodrigo, and I really like how it turned out.
***********************
There is also very chilly outside, so I was enough lucky to was inside the last week because of neck pain, my doctor kept me at home from work.

***********************
***********************

I was very happy when I finished my Levenwick, just in time for those windy and cold days, I wore it under my feather jacket and it is so comfy and kept me very warm.
Here it is.
I really loved knitting this cardigan. Gudrun Johnston designed a great pattern. I found the instruction to make button hole very genial, and it will be my referring for button's band from now on.
***********************
***********************

Two word about the yarn.
I used the Shelter from Brooklyn Tweed. Well, I'm not really convinced about this yarn, while knitting it seems to be very fragile, it breaks easily and I had to be careful to not pull it too much. As pros I can say that once it is knitted the piece is very warm and I really love how turned the finished garment.
That's all folks. Please remember the giveaway! There are only 3 days left to get in.
See you Soon!!
***********************
A presto! And so it was thare that Constanza has told me about The Laudress, which is also becoming very fashionable in fact I even read about them on Marie Claire, has lines dedicated to the washing of wool, cashmere, cotton, etc.. fibers in general, and also has a number of items to preserve and care our beloved hand knitted sweaters.
**************

**************
I tried the line Wool & Cashmere Shampoo, which is fine for both hand and machine washing, that has a delicate scent of cedar and is a natural product that does not use sulfates, is biodegradable, non-toxic and free of allergens .
I washed one of my sweaters and I must say that the yield is high, the fibers back to life and the head is very soft. On their site you can also find a video demonstration of how to wash a cashmere sweater, but I think you already know, but it was fun:)
In the series of articles I found the wonderful Sweater Stone for anti-pilling, yeah! For months I wanted to order it after reading the praises of Ysolda blog, but she recommended the site I had never been answered, and was not previously available in Europe. Constanza reordered it and now I can not wait to have mine!
So my brave, go to being a washerwomen! (Back pain permitting, I'm KO at the moment):))

**************
Sharry is a very lovely person, I shop from her Etsy Shop, Buttonalia, twice at the moment. I'm completely satisfied and I'm happy to recommend her shop.

I also asked to her to let us know something about her life and her buttons, so, here is a little interview.

1. How did I start making buttons?

I used to throw large bowls which were made into washbasins and then made correlating tiles - this was a great joy to me. They were high fired in a gas kiln so I could really go to town with glazes. I loved how the glazes would pool at the bottom of these very large bowls. I also used to throw on the wheel bowls which I would cut and manipulate, making them hearts, then I would raku them - I must have made hundreds of hearts, each one different.

I then began to have trouble with my elbows and 'tennis elbow' made it very painful to throw on the wheel, so I began making sculptures. They were all hollow and coiled and I began to develop non domestic glazes, art glazes, being inspired by nature. They got bigger and bigger and I am thrilled to say that one was bought by my Art School in New Zealand and a very big one was shipped to the USA.

My husband and I moved to Taiwan where we taught English, so I had no opportunity to work in clay. However, I taught a Friday night English class to little children and their mothers and while I read a story, the children would build little sculptures while I talked. One of the mum's knew of a kiln at a nursery school, so she would have them fired so the children could see their work the next Friday. I loved those evenings! I was also very honoured to meet a master glassmaker, who let me spend the evening with him while I watched him work. We couldn't communicate in language, but spoke instead in chemistry e.g. Fe for Iron and in degrees of heat e.g. 900 degrees Celsius. I still have an exquisite little red glass ant that he made for me.

My husband was offered a teaching position in Kent, England, so we moved here almost 10 years ago. Being new immigrants, we had to find our way around and it took me 7 years to finally find my place in clay once again. The equipment is very expensive, our house is a mid terrace Victorian house, which is very small, so the cellar is my studio where I keep the kiln and all my raw materials for glazing. Having a small kiln and a small house and a small pocket :), I had to think small. I am a very utilitarian person, so I tend to make useful objects unless I am being whimsical, then I make unusual, but simple objects to simply look at, like sculptures or hearts. It was natural for me to make buttons - the humble button with all its uses, buttons to make you smile.

2. Do I have other button related hobbies?

I used to sew most of my own clothes, but do just a little sewing now as my time is consumed with buttons!

3. What's the secret of my success?

I think to start with, I have technical expertise. It takes a lot of patience, experimentation, research and pure hard work for it to become somewhat easier to do. So, besides the technical skill, I think it's glazing that sends me to nirvana - I LOVE chemistry and that's what glazes are! So, that's the buttons but the next thing is photos from every angle in natural light. My customers need to see as much as possible without holding them and I try to keep that in mind. I do my best to describe them - sizes, colour, pattern etc. Pricing was a very difficult one for me because I wanted to offer pure, useful art in everyday buttons, so I had to find a price range that I could afford to offer, but one that my customers could afford to pay. Customer service is paramount in my shop - it thrills me every time I have a sale, every single time. I feel honoured that someone would want my buttons and it spurs me on to making more and more. I love seeing photos of what happens to my buttons and it amazes me what incredible skill my customers have - you would not believe some of the most exquisite things have been made, with my buttons as embellishments.

4. What question would I like someone to ask that has never been asked before?

I would love to be invited to work as a resident artist for say, a year in a new country. Or to be invited to help in a community project locally.

5. Can my buttons be machine washed?

Absolutely! Just as a cautionary measure, turn the garment inside out so you don't have the buttons banging against the metal drum of the washing machine. They are joyful little nubs of pleasure, so enjoy them!

:)) thanks to Buttonalia for letting us know a bit more about you and your creations!Giusy Jdeebellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02223279885801167396noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344261481826503966.post-738578646966834962012-01-09T08:08:00.000-08:002012-01-09T08:26:02.423-08:00Vintage Outfit #1First of all, keep going with the entry for the giveaway, and remember to leave one comment for each shared link!
Then as already some of you know, I have a vintage style period and want to share my today's outfit with you:

Dress: Vintage Dress 1970 Candy Apple Red Dress from Runaround Sue Vintage Boutique
Bag: Vintage '70 french bag from Ebay
Shoes: Retro style shoe purchased 4 year ago at a local store.

Have a nice Vintage style eve :))
xoxo BubiknitsGiusy Jdeebellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02223279885801167396noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344261481826503966.post-71519913124005345642012-01-05T09:49:00.001-08:002012-02-14T12:05:22.491-08:00Bubiknits GiveawayOk girls and maybe men-knitter,
there is time for a Giveaway. In this one the suggested yarn is Shelter by Brooklyn Tweed. A wonderful yarn to work with, I'm really impressed so far and can't wait to complete the cardigan to see how it turned out once it is finished. nel cuore e Vintage styleEbbene si, in questi giorni pensavo che sto proprio diventando sempre più "signora", un po' come la mia insegnante di matematica alle superiori, sempre dentro le sue scarpe basse e vestita in maniera più o meno sobrio-rigoroso.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/giusypatch/6538725257/" title="tyrolean-sweater2 by Bubiknits, on Flickr" One of them is Kate Davies and when I saw this post on her blog (and read about her interesting project) I couldn't resist and bought those beautiful badge from her friend on Etsy.

And to stay on the subject, about a month ago I met a ceramic artist and talking about this and that I told him how strongly I would have loved to have a ceramic yarn bowl, I made a sketch and then I gave him carte blanche on the creation, I only asked the bowl must have an incision with my nick name and a stylized sheep ... Well, one month later, when I saw the finished yarn bowl I would wanted to kiss him with happiness. The yarn bowl is wonderful, while knitting the yarn tension is perfect, and when I pull it a little stronger I can listen the ball echoes inside the jar. Isn't it Wonderful?!
I ask to the craftman to make another yarn bowl, similar but not identical, for a unique gift for a dear friend.

Giusy Jdeebellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02223279885801167396noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344261481826503966.post-51526575448987688972011-11-30T13:35:00.000-08:002011-11-30T13:43:22.870-08:00Giveaway - yards of yarn
Yes, I have a problem. I can't stop buying anything and when I see something I like I can't resist: I must have it.
This past summer Ysolda Tegue, one of my favorite knit designer held a shoe destash. Most of her fabulous shoe were gone when I saw her post late in the morning, but... some of them were still available so... I wrote to her asking for those beautiful pair of vintage shoes. She told me that those were very narrow but if I would buy them she would have been happy to sell them to me.
Of course I told her I would have buy the shoes. And if I wouldn't be able to wear them I will have kept them as a fetish of my knitting Idol.
The shoes came to my house with a signed notes from the lovely Ysolda (I also asked a little signature note to keep into "Little Red in the City", a book she published a few months before and that I have in my library). The shoes are fabulous but she was right, were very narrow, so I put them into a shoe box and forgot them till a few weeks ago.
Last week I've got a brilliant idea: I bring them to my shoemaker and ask him to enlarge them. Well, on friday I was able to PERFECTLY wear them, no hurt no pain!! I love them so much and got lot of compliment from my collegue.

Would we talk about books? Needless to say I have lots of book? To not to talk to pdf patterns!! Tons of them :))

And then there are SOME of the last bought: WOOL!!! Luxury wool... expensive wool of course.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw0sWHVmpbtMl2_spjzkYqbdLZo6CVwvM0CXhMgslf5TlQoy83dekxbQSFZ4LTfAThuUhseemdpjwzbtMkBqs8vjRhGU425MhHEXwf7A6h98qdgjXr_4an8PdZbslNrmEHqxtKCcQ5Dtg/" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5679452310157840978" />

I have some new sweater at my needles at the moment, but I'm just a litte pressured at the time, so no much knitting in the evening, but I'm still dreaming of finish some for Xmas time.

That's all for now, :) Good night!Giusy Jdeebellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02223279885801167396noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344261481826503966.post-44930303999093549522011-11-13T09:35:00.000-08:002011-11-13T09:49:06.728-08:00West + RowanWell, this is a winning pair:
Designer = Stephen West
Yarn = Rowan Lima

Let the images says for me.

Giusy Jdeebellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02223279885801167396noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344261481826503966.post-58407981136121904142011-11-10T10:09:00.001-08:002011-11-10T10:09:41.342-08:00Xmas thoughtsIt's time to knit Xmas presents ;-)

The yarn is so soft and beautiful.

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
Giusy Jdeebellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02223279885801167396noreply@blogger.com0
